St. Marys Climate Control Repair & Maintenance

Air Conditioning System

There are a variety of different air conditioning systems for automobiles, trucks, and SUVs, but all work basically in the same manner. Warm air passes over a refrigerant, the heat is transferred to a refrigerant, which then removes the warmer air from your automobile cabin. There are several reasons why your air conditioning system may not function properly. Corrections range from a relatively simple recharge to service of the compressor, evaporator, condenser, and electrical controls.

Maintenance and automobile:

Your automobile's system should be checked by a St. Marys AAMCO mechanic annually. Symptoms of a low refrigerant charge include poor cooling and the compressor for the air conditioner frequently engaging and disengaging, i.e., the air conditioning is constantly stopping and starting. Using an air conditioner low on refrigerant potentially can cause damage to the system. Please refer to your owner’s manual for factory recommended maintenance intervals for your specific automobile.

Also keep in mind that the air conditioning system also operates when the climate control system is set to defrost the windows. If you have any problems with defrosting windows, have your automobile checked out as soon as possible by a trained mechanic as a safety precaution. Bring your automobile to the mechanics at St. Marys AAMCO.

Cabin Air Filter

Approximately half of late model automobiles now have a cabin air filter to clean incoming air for the automobile’s heating/ventilation/air conditioning system. This filter is designed to trap dust, pollen, bacteria, and exhaust gases.

Maintenance and automobile:

Please refer to your owner’s manual for factory recommended maintenance intervals for your specific automobile. It should be noted however, that cabin air filter replacement is not always noted in the owner’s manual, so a rule of thumb is replacement about every 15,000 miles. Bring your automobile to the mechanics at St. Marys AAMCO.
